Press and Media

We are very grateful to all journalists, bloggers, supporters, and fans who have taken the time to talk with us and discuss or highlight our work over the years. Here are some clips of media interviews and news about DUKEScomics.

We at DUKEScomics are proud to celebrate Dr. E C Dukes (Elvira Carrizal-Dukes, PhD, MFA) and her recognition at the 2025 International Latino Book Awards (ILBA), held on October 25, 2025.

Dr. Dukes’ eBook Cholx Counterstory received the Silver Medal in the Best eBook Category. The ILBA judges shared that “the story and historical narrative are both engaging and well-written.
This work honors the voices and experiences of the people and places that inspired it. We extend heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed to this project: the storytellers, artists, editors, and collaborators who helped bring these counterstories to life — including Intermezzo, Drs. Jeff Rice and Sergio Figueiredo, artist Paola Rascón, Augment El Paso, La Vicko, Ronnie Dukes, Zeye, and the many interviewees and community members who shared their stories, art, and history.

We are also deeply proud of Marcos Molina, a 15-year-old student artist we mentored through DUKEScomics. Marcos earned an Honorable Mention in the category “The Charlie Ericksen Best Book Written by a Youth” for his comic The Dino Dudes: A Prehistoric Adventure. His creativity and dedication embody the spirit of the next generation of storytellers we strive to support.

In addition, Dr. Dukes contributed to the anthology Somos Xicanas, edited by Luz Schweig and published by Riot of Roses Publishing House, which received a Silver Medal for The Dolores Huerta Best Cultural & Community Themed Book and a Bronze Medal for Best Women’s Issues Book. We celebrate all the authors in this inspiring collection and the community it represents.

We at DUKEScomics congratulate all the writers and artists recognized by ILBA — medalists, honorable mentions, and finalists alike. Every story shared contributes to our collective narrative and affirms that our voices matter.

We are grateful to everyone who continues to uplift and collaborate with us, and we look forward to continuing to tell our stories through art, comics, and community.
